Subframe Replacement 700

My subframe is shot, too far gone to weld. I leave black rubber marks when backing up on concrete. Both side control arm mounts are split at the rear, twisted metal hanging down. No accident, I supose it is Fatigue. Maybe I need some chassis braces.

Anything I should watch out for or replace at the same time?

Compatibility tips?

Is there a year with a stronger crossmember?

I replaced all my struts and bushings within the last year.

The plan:
My car is an 85 Diesel 740 Wagon
My friend has offered to give me his Shop's old parts car (87?) gas wagon. Its pretty parted, mostly just a shell on 3 mini spares and one good tire. I figure it will cost me $10 in gas to go get it and $6 to dispose of the tires...not too bad, but I am not looking forward to doing the job. I guess my leaky oil cooler line will be easier to replace with that out.

Any tips and feedback welcome.
