OVERDRIVE SOLENOID 200 1989

If they stuffed in a good one and it did not fix the overdrive and everything else is working electrically then they are probably right on the money in that it needs a rebuilt trans to fix it up. Before I put a trans or a new solenoid in it I would by pass the old one first.

Remove it from the car, remove the inner smaller O ring, take a dremel tool and grind a passage from one hole to the next, clean up and reinstall with ONLY THE OUTER O RING INSTALLED and road test. It may take a little bit for it to start working again or it may never work again. Either way it beats spending money on a new solenoid to find out what the dealer has already told you and if it fixes it then just drive it home. With the by passed solenoid in there the trans will shift through the gears just like it always has you will just no longer have control over the OD. In other words it will not respond to the button, but if you need to drop it down a gear from OD it will do so in passing gear.
