Leaking coolant gremlin?!?!? 700

90 760 T Sedan 213,000 miles

Here's a new one for me:

Friday, smelled coolant after a 20 minute drive. Popped the hood and saw coolant "spatter" on the intercooler to manifold hard pipe, pooled on the front of the block, and spattered on some of the ancillary tubing/piping under the manifold area. Could NOT see where the coolant had been leaking from?!?!? Not wet at the head/block intersection or at the front (water pump to block). While not overheating, I did have to top off the reservoir tank. Mysteriously, I haven't see the problem since.

Could it be leaking at the water temp sending unit?

Will continue to observe daily for any recurrence. Does anyone have any previous experience with this phenomenon? I'm stumped.

Many thanks in advance.
