thank you guys for the info
it seems the best choice for me is to replace the o2 sensor and see where that goes
as far as the RPM sensor-or as Volvo refers to it the "timing pickup"
i'll just have to get into that too tomorrow
as i have had 2 cars in my lifrtime succumb to electric ghosts i'm hoping to get away with replacing these parts rather than find a bad connection or loose wire somewhere
