240 MANUAL SHIFT CABLE QUESTION

93 240 puting the manual tranny back in. I am trying to pull the end of the shifter cable through the clutch fork however I have no idea how to get the cable through the rubber grommet and the metal piece that goes on the end and by the way which way does the opening on the metal piece face driver's side or towards tranny. One last question while I have your attention how in the heck does the metal piece that goes through end of the shifter go back in. I can not get it to go back in for the life of me. Maybe I have the plastic grommets in wrong do they go <= => or => <=. Thanks in advance.
