Armrest with sliding cupholders... spare parts assembly? 200 1986

Does anyone know how the "hanging down things"* from an official Volvo armrest cupholder pull back up when sliding the cupholder back in to the armrest?

I'm afraid I got everything but those from the yard when I was lucky enough to find an armrest with those cupholders in it... now the car is smashed and I'm wondering whether it's even worth it to put the armrest in without those things which I assume keep cylindrical drinks (i.e. soda cans) from falling through.

thanks for any insight
