alternator ground question 200 1988

I think I know my alternator problem. I just recently replaced my alternator with a 2 post unit from advance auto parts. The battery light stays on all the time now and unit does not charge the battery. Obviously there is some sort of ground problem. I read in a post earlier that the 2 post units ground, is some sort of washer that seperates the two wires on B+. I remember it coming with it, but somewhere during the installation process i lost it. to me it was just some sort of washer. Does anyone know what i can replace it with, and what the whole assembly is? currently i just have one nut for one post, and one nut for the other post.
