Help me PLEASE Discussion at work 200 1986

Well, I am empathetic to your plight. I think the 240s have a lot of safety features and the other posters have enumerated many of these in their posts. That said, I do think that anti-lock breaks and airbags do add some measure of additional protection (the antilock brakes in particular). Size, weight, crash test results, and the type of vehicle all make a difference. In these respects I think the Volvos have an edge on many of the newer cars even. But I think you need data on crash test results and/or crash survival results.

An article in Pediatrics on selecting cars for your teens: http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/107/1/215/b

Call your insurance agent and ask how the company decides on insurance ratings for the car that you have in mind. I think there is some useful data that they have access to that is an indicator of relative safety.

Hope this is helpful.

Mike
