question about removing a/c 200 1979

If you want the mileage to improve,do not use the a/c. I believe the difference between no compressor and not engaging the clutch would be miniscule at best. Even when using the a/c it probably only saps 3 or 4hp. Plus there is the theory that you actually get better mileage with the a/c on and the windows rolled up. Especially at freeway speeds. Plus if and when you decide to sell it the resale value would be higher with a/c. But I live in Florida so a/c is almost mandantory.

Just for grins why don't you do your normal driving route for one tankful of gas with the a/c off and one tankful with the a/c on and compare the difference. It might be less than you think.

Good luck. Jim
