my volvo makes me angry and sparks fights with me and my girlfreind. HELP! 200

for some reason my car is stalling out when i put it in gear. sometimes it will immediately go when i put it in reverse, others it waits until i put it in drive, but it just stops. once i get it going, she runs fine. what could be causing the random stall outs?
