Help with automatic B230 Engine Replacement 700 1990

If I can respond with a dumb wife story, it might help.

My wife was on her way home in our '88 740 when the heater control valve cracked open and shot out all the coolant. Did she pull off the road? Oh, no, she drove the rest of the way home -- about five miles in stop and go traffic. I did not know a car engine could get that hot . . . or sound so wrong! I thought the engine was absolute toast. However, I replaced the failed valve, added coolant, and cranked her up. I was amazed that it acted as if nothing had happened. Except for that it now uses about 1/2 - 3/4 qt. of oil between changes, it runs fine. That was several years and a hundred thousand miles back, and still a great car.

Moral of the story: don't jump too quick on replacing your engine. You may luck out . . . or not.
