Overdrive switch cut-out location 140-160 1972

I finally have installed the proper factory stalk switch for the overdrive on my '72 144. It's nice to have the correct switch instead of a generic toggle switch...the beauty is in the details!

My question is how did the factory cut out the top half of the steering column cover for the directional switch stalk and the overdrive switch stalk? At least one of them would have to have been notched open on the bottom to be able to slide the cover over the two switches at the same time. I know the column mounted automatic cars had a circle cut out for the column shift and a notch cut out on the directional stalk side, and suspect that the overdrive equipped cars were similar.

I could cut it many different ways and it would still work, but I really want it to look like a factory installation.

Can anyone help? Maybe post a photo?
