Before you do the tranny swap, (assuming you hven't done it already)......

Do the Brickboard tranny flush.

check the smooth operation of the kickdown cable, and maybe replace it.

Seems to me that the work and $$$ for those two combined would be less than a tranny swap.

Consider a JunkYard p/s rack - find one that's dry (on the outside) and the boots are OK. $150 +/- .
