Bio Deisel IS not environmentally friendly 200

Mark. I agree with you whole heartedly. At this stage in the game the only way bidiesel may be feasible is if it was a DIY project and the owner had a large supply of used fast food grease on hand. Imagine if this stuff became popular...it would probably cost as much or more than crude oil since there where inevitably corporation wanting a cut in the profits. But the real deterrent to using this "Free Fuel" is that it actually harms the environment more than it helps. As Mark stated, the biodiesel has way less BTU's than dino diesel meaning you'll use more of the french fry grease. The thing is You have to grow corn to make the canola oil for the fry grease. That involves input of more resources into the ground than what the ground actually yields in terms of energy. The only reason farmers actually grow the stuff is because they are heavilly subsidized by the government so that they just break even. Not mention the transportation and energy used to bring the french fries and chicken to the KFC and actually cooking it in an environment that is pleasent to morbidly overweight fast food epicurians. Mark, it sounds to me like your salesman was an idealistic sort of fella' who probably felt you would care more about the environment than you do about paying your employees or feeding your own family. Which is fine: You are both right in my book. It's a nice dream but not very practical (right now). This fella would have better luck selling Vespa scooters. Next time you see him tell him that Rabbit and Jetta diesels weigh less and so are more efficient, that way he'll bug your VW mechanic neighbor instaed and not try to guilt trip you anymore! :)
