Strut Replacement Complete

Hello,

I'm in the process of replacing the strut cartridges (once I can get the fused gland nut off) and various other front suspension components in my 1988 760 wagon. I have purchased Bilstein touring class struts as you did and was wondering about the height difference and bottom spacer. Did your OEM struts have a spacer installed originally or did you remove it to assist in accommodating the taller cartridge? Is this spacer necessary for proper strut operation (in other words, does the lack of a spacer interfere with the cartridge seating in the bottom of the strut assembly)? Just wanted to know before I reassemble everything. Also, any other tips for getting a serverely corroded gland nut off? I have drenched it with PB Blaster and tried loosening it while the strut was still mounted to the car.

Thanks!
