differential question. 140-160

Hello to all, I am hoping the collective brain trust here will know the answer.
My '72 142 is making a lot of gear noise from the rear end, especially when I am doing 65 or so and then let off on the gas and take the load off the rear. So, I am figuring I am going to have to open her up and take a look. If I'm going to do that I am thinking why not just rebuild the rear differetial and alsoput in new axle bearings, and seals.
would the guts of a 240 differential fit in the 140? are they the same part#'s etc.? I have some access to 240's locally and more importantly cheaply.
thanks for any info.
