RSR on the fritz, is this quick fix safe??? 700 1987

Driving on the highway today and the car starts hitching. Kept it going a little while longer, when it finally conked out. The problem has been with the Radio Suppression Relay and the connectors going to it. Had to get on up the road so as a quick fix I cut off the connectors to the hot wire and the one going to the injectors, stripped off a little insulation twisted them together, added a wire nut and voila' she's run like she hasn't run in months.

Question is, am I going to burn something up or should this quick fix be okay til I can get the relay replaced? Or would a 40 amp toggle switch be okay to turn power off and on to the injectors?
