Black applicade around rear windows flaking away 200 1993

I have a '93 245 with 144 miles. Noticing that the black applicade(?) surrounding the rear cargo side window panels is cracking and flaking away. I guess Volvo decided to use this instead of the more expensive chrome. Anything I can do ? It's basically falling apart. It doesn't appear to serve any purpose except for looks - and it's lookin bad ! Thanks !
