Trip computer (perhaps called otherwise) 700

"WHAT IS THE BRICKBOARD?
You will not find more information about your Volvo anywhere else."

I hope the above is right because I'm searching information about an (apparently) rare item.
I live in Belgium-Europe and bought a "trip computer" on ebay. It could also be called a driving system or board computer. The only part I have of it is the reading-unit in the instrumentscluster (see pics on http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/wolwo/trimcomp2.jpg and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/wolwo/trimcomp1.jpg).

It indicates the time, the outside temp and fuel consumption. This is in mpg and not common around here. The seller of the item told me it came out of an american Volvo 700.

Is this item known to anyone of you? I would like to complete the set with, I presume, a selectorswitch and some sensors. Any info would be welcome.

Greetings from the little Belgium
