elec. problems

Hi all,

The car has been running well lately, and I've even been thinking about getting some new wheels/hubcaps for it. I used a grinder to remove all the rust/dirt on the current ones and no surprise after a week they had started rusting again.

Anyway, I have had some electrical problems. I recently re-did the alternator brushes which worked very well. However, whenever I turn off the car the bat red light stays on for a 1/2 second. I left the car sitting for a week about one month ago and when I came back the battery was dead. I thought maybe there was a short somewhere in the system. It has the original wiring harness and it's pretty beat-up.

I got out the multi-meter this weekend. And these were my findings:

1) Pulled fuse-by-fuse, put leads between fuse points and read current. Hazard light fuse read ~6mA, and the one for the clock and other accessories read ~5mA. The rest didn't show any current.
2) Put them back in, and pulled the -terminal on the battery. Put leads between -neg connector, and -neg post on the battery. Read ~6mA.
3) I then went and pulled the fuses for the hazard light, and clock/accessories, and it jumped up to ~7mA. Which really confused me.

So, I think there is a short somewhere, and I'm confused as to where it might be.

Any tips/ideas on troubleshooting?
