Fuel filter / pump problem ?? 200 1993

After turning my key, at the end of the start cycle, my 240 sedan is making a noise that sounds like a duck quack. (similar to but not the same as when you try to restart you car when the motor is already running). Also, potentially more alarming, as I was entering the highway during my early morning commute yesterday, I notice all my indicator lights were on, once I acclerated they went off and I continued on my merry way. I replaced my timing belt/water pump a couple thousand miles ago, as well as the starter / alternator. However, the car still has its original factory installed fuel pump (last maintanence my mechanic mentioned it might go soon). Any ideas what this might be about? What should I expect when my fuel pump goes? Maybe I just need to replace my fuel filter? Thanks in advances for your thoughts!!! Chantal
