Substitute for AirBox preheating tube? 700

Hi all,

The silver, flexible tubing that goes from the engine to the airbox (used to heat incoming air) has torn and is basically unusable. Rather than forking up $60+ for one of these tubes, can i just use whatever substitute tubing for this application?

I'm tempted to just leave it ripped or to even disconnect considering I live in Southern California, where the temperature probably never dips enought for the air box thermostat to even make use of the heated air.
