How good is the factory A/C in the 164? 140-160

Could you find a new compressor "off the shelf", or was it hard to find? I want to add aircon to my '73 164 ('73 models were factory prepared to get aircon retrofitted).

You have to run your aircon during winter as well, to distribute the oil through the hoses to prevent leaks. That's all. And R135a (or what ever, the new stuff) is much more prone to leaking, but then again they use higher quality hoses and fittings, but then again environmentally it does not matter if they leak so the shops do not have to do such a good job at sealing fittings...

In the winter an aircon is great for demisting the windscreen, and you run it with the heater on at the same time.
