Ease of timing belt change - B230FT vs B21F 200 1980

After being quoted $550, I'm contemplating changing the timing belt and water pump on my 1988 740 Turbo (B230FT) myself. I've done the job on my 1980 245DL (B21F) and would be willing to do it on the 740 if it's not much more difficult (I will need to replace the crank pulley/harmonic balancer too). Can anyone tell me how the job compares on the B230FT versus the B21F? Is there any reason putting the car in 4th car (manual transmission) and setting the parking brake won't work for holding the crank pulley for bolt removal like it did on my 245 (i.e. does the harmonic balancer rule out that method)? Thanks

Zack
