'87 240 ? Fuel Filter Plugged Diagnosis 200 1987

'87 240 starts for about 2 seconds then dies, just cranks with no start until it sets for about 12 hours then only runs for about 2 seconds again. Spark at plug (now I know why you keep the plug grounded rather than hold it in your hand), in-tank pump runs when fuse 4 connected to fuse 6, replaced fuel relay with known working one (can feel click when ignition switch turned on and another click when trying to start), jump relay position 30 with 87/2 and can hear pump (? main pump) run. My gut feeling is that this is a fuel filter problem. What do you think? I drained the fuel out of my tractor ('51 Farmall M) so I could remove the tank for painting, and added this fuel (about 5 gal)to the '87 240 (about 10 gal). What would be in this fuel that would cause the no-start problem? I put the tractor fuel in the car on Sunday, drove the car on Sunday eve, Monday and Tuesday morning. The car didn't stop running until Tuesday eve. Coincidence? Sock filter on in-tank pump plugged?
