Stupid tune-up question. 900

My tune up is finally done. New NGK plugs, Bosch rotor and cap, new wipers, flushed ps, tranny, coolant, all new belts, timing belt, water pump, new magnafines in ps and tranny. All is set for my Texas trip to get the 122.

I also picked up a new oil filter from volvo, a half case of Mobil One 10w30, and a magnetic drain plug from FCP Groton.

I drained the old oil, changed the filter and replaced the plug. I also added new crush rings. AND as I write this I realize that the ring given to me by the dealer was for the drain plug, not the filter. That might be a problem Damn. Stupid. But not my initial question.

My question is in regards to the oil capacity of the B230FD. All cars in my experience have has 4 engine quarts and 1 filter quart. 5 total. I added four quarts, checked the dipstick and saw no oil, so I added the 5th quart. Dipstick looked good. After the process was complete I re-checked the owner's manual. It says 4 quarts including the filter... wtf?! I let the car idle for a while, let it rest, rechecked the dipstick. Still looks good...

I'm feeling rather confused now. I can actually count to 5. What gives, any ideas?

And, should I be nightmarishly concerned about that extra crush ring I put on the oil filter spindle? The seal looked good. Pretty small... Hopefully not the end of the world

AND, is the switch to synth going to necessitate changing the filter out sooner ~1,000 miles?
