Anyone used these ferrule connectors? 900 1993

Has anyone had any experience using ferrule connectors to "splice" a rubber hose into a metal trans. line? I have the more basic setup with my Magnefine filter hoses attached to the metal line with a couple of hose clamps. Problem is, it will leak slightly no matter how tight you clamp.

The ferrule connectors I got have nice tapered ends to clamp the hose to. But I'm skeptical that they are actually able to stay on the metal line by themselves or not leak, since there's no gasket material at all, and everything is just metal on metal. Am I missing some basic principle here, or should I just try to tighten the nut side on the line as much as I can and hope for the best? (or just stick with the setup I have now?)

Thanks for any suggestions!
