Is the 2.9 24 valve as durable as the B230ft? Can I get 400k miles out of it?? 900

Is it as easy to work on? I am a shade tree guy with an 89 745 tic w/210k miles with plenty left on her. Can I get the same from a 2.9 on a 960?? Any improvments to the 960 over the years? Which is the best year? Thanks db
