Advice on fixing rust problem on the 92 sedan 200 1992

Hello, BBers.

I have been fretting about the rust developing on the seam that connects the rear driver's quarter panel to the roof pillar. I bought the car from a little old lady a couple of years ago, and the panel was probably welded on prior to her ownership in 2000. Anyway, I noticed what looked like rust begining to bump up under the paint along the seam, and upon closer inspection from the inside (under the plastic seat belt cover), that rust was indeed growing. I now want to fix it - but have been afraid of high cost.

Yesterday I got an estimate for about $180 from a body shop. They said they would grind it down and re-weld. The estimate is much cheaper than I thought. Do you all have any suggestions regarding this process? Should I be suspicious about certain body shop techniques or be sure to get specific forms of rust protection as part of the job?

The car is immaculate otherwise, both inside and out - it runs like new. And with 111K miles, I want to drive this thing for a long time. I know that the rust can never go away, but I'm sure it can be appeased, especially kept in my garage. Of course, I'm always looking for a 5 speed. If you have any advice or suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,
pu
