Transmission leak 240 Wagon 200

I have a leak in the transmission of my 240 wagon. I am loosing quite a bit of fluid and I notice that my transmission dipstick is usually "pushed out" of its hole when I go to add or check fluid. Before turning the keys over to the mechanic what are the likey culprits for this? I have already made a call to the shop that services my Mercedes and they have indicated the possibility of an almost $500 repair to replace a seal.

Anybody wanna buy a nice 240 Wagon with a transmission leak? This is my second Volvo and its quickly reminding me why I got rid of my S70.
