MY 1989 240 VOLVO WAGON was in a accident, now it wont start, why? 200 1989

Take a look at the park nuetral switch. Where the gear selector is there is the housing that has the PRNDL stuff on it. Take the two screws out of the front of it and lift it up. Take a look and you will see a pin in the side of the shifter itself that is supposed to engage a small "J" shaped piece that is in the top of the PNP switch. The PNP switch is black, shaped like a slice of pizza and has an electrical connection that exits the bottom of the shift bucket. Your pin on the shifter has probably popped out and the car thinks that it is not in park or nuetral. If you lean on the shifter a little you can pull the pin towards you and with your other hand move the "J" shaped piece to where it will engage the pin on the shifter. If you look at the top of the PNP switch you will actually see two little lines that indicate "P" and "N". Make sure that when it is in park or nuetral that the little "J" shaped piece is in alignment with the "P" or "N" positions on the switch.
