AMM from other makes?

Hi all,
I was thinking about the AMM issue (expensive) with our beloved Volvos. I have an 89 244 and probably will buy a 90 245 on Monday. In my salvage yard hunts I have found many 87 and older cars and 1 91 that someone had relieved of the AMM. Since this is an expensive part, I was wondering about other makes. I have an 89 Saab 9000s with an AMM that looks identical but has a different Bosch part number. I am considering swapping it out just to see what happens. Will I do any damage to my ECU or anything else? Any experience swapping these around?
Thanks,
Palmer
