speedo out, warning lights on 700

Earlier in the week, the speedometer in my '91 740 n/a went erratic and then stopped registering anything. Odometer still moves. I hadn't had a chance to fool with it and then today most of the warning lights (battery, brake, parking brake, bulb out and service (no, service won't reset)) stayed on. Fuel, temp and tach all still work.

I'm assuming this is electrical. Is there a ground or other connection I should look at first. If I can't find anything, I can probably find another cluster at the local PandP. What years will be compatible with my '91 745? Do the wagons have a different speedo than the sedans as the 240s do?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.
