Rickety shudder steering and bushings 200

on my '87 230f i've been VERY impressed with it's precise alignment; until now. My steering has the shivers at any speed... along with that comes a non-progressive pull to the right. I had a my brother ride along both sides while driving to see if the wheels are out of balance or shimmying, nothing seen. I read in a Chilton that a certain valve can go bad and can "confuse" how much pressure either side the rack requires. I've noticed that with gripping the wheels (even while on the ground) that it moves slightly but with a "click". I follwed the source of movement and discovered the inner ball joints are in need of replacement [ how difficult is that? ] Also, i've been sitting on this idea of replacing the front lower control arm bushings. The Chilton suggests an easy task, but i've replaced them on my 2door Tahoe and a Grand Am and they have got to be lying! either way, from any response i may get i might just elect to replace the whole rack - the boots are pathetic! (but i have NO leaks)
