'83 245 turbo died and won't start again - help! 200 1983

It died while driving on the highway one day and when I pulled over to the side and tried turning it over again it would start but idle rough and then die when I stepped on the gas. Leading up to this it had died a couple times while stopping but after cranking it back over it started right up and ran fine. I opened up the back hatch to see if it was the in-tank fuel pump and I jumpered fuses 5 to 7 (or whichever the right ones were, don't worry I did it right, it was a while ago though) and I could hear the fuel pump whizzing back there so I assume it's fine. So now i'm lost as to what the problem could be since it seemed for sure to be the fuel pump. Any ideas that would keep me from bringing it to a mechanic would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Jonathan
