Update on 'new' 244 in the collection 200 1989

I had intended to head back out last night and work on it, but fell out cold from being up too long.

I was lucky enough to find an FPR in a town not too far from here. Put it on the car after I got in (took a short work day). It was still hard to start (would be), but it got to running better on the way to the parts store. Put in some new plugs (autolites were all they had, gonna give 'em a shot). She ran MUCH better after the new plugs (well duh! right? lol), so I took her for a little ride. Rode around for over an hour in a town I know nothing about (saw some real nice yards though). No real issues to report. Broke out the "Volvo kit" after I got back to the motel and the o2's toast, but they didn't have anything in stock, so I'll most likely just drive it home and get one this weekend.

She drives nice, track's straight and handles pretty decent. I do believe I got quite lucky on this one. Let's hope the fuel pump issue wasn't an actual problem and was just a dealership throwing parts at a problem. No signs of any problems.

I just got back from driving it back over to the car lot I bought it from. I had to let her see her brick running. She asked what it was and I told her. I won't quote what she replied, but the last words were "________ Volvo dealership".
I told her that it cost a grand total of $87 and some change to get it running right, and an o2 sensor would finish the repair. Really felt bad in a way and asked her if she wanted her car back for $487 and let her shop guys put the o2 sensor in, but she was too ticked off at the car in general. Said she'd never own another Volvo. I couldn't help but tell her that it was a bad dealership and not any sign of the quality of Volvos, but I can't refuse her outlook. Her reply was something to the effect of "If I'm going to buy a new car from a dealership, I expect that same ____ dealership to know how to work on their own cars. I bought my Lincoln locally and they've been great at the dealership ever since." Said the Volvo dealership had been a pain from the get go.

Ah well, I wish I could say that I felt great about it, but it kinda sux that she thought the car was going to take a lot to fix. I did tell her that I thougt it was going to be a simple fix when she offered it for $400, but still. Anyway, I love the car, hate the headlights, but love the car.

Just read the responses from my last post, thanks all.
Let's hope the FPR was all it was. I'd never seen one this bad.

Frank
