Starters that don't 444-544

Sounds like a bad starter. The solenoids job is to pull the gears into contact with the flywheel ring gear and to close the heavy contacts that supply the current to the motor. If you are getting the heavy current drain then you know the solenoid has done its job. And as long as the engine isn't stuck, and the battery isn't weak/verge of death then it should turn the motor. If it doesn't, it'sa no good, get another one.

I assume you are referring to me as McCain? It's actually McRaven. That makes the 5th PV I know of in the St. Louis area. Mine's a hot rodded beater, Joe's is probably going to look brand new when he's done with it (based on his work I've seen on his old motorcycles). Than another one restored by Christopher Goerger (unless my memory has gone horribly awry) owned by someone (sorry, can't recall the name) in north Kirkwood. And another white unrestored one I used to see running around Kirkwood as well.

There are probably others in the area I'm sure, but you sure aren't going to see one next to you at a stoplight!
