brake switch removal tips 200 1989

i knew i shouldn't have stopped dating that contortionist. are there any tips/tricks to help me remove the broken switch ( tested bad as per archived posts ) before i squeeze myself under the dash? appears i need to remove a thin nut from backside of switch. size of same? do i need to remember number of turns so new switch is same distance from brake pedal? so much to know for something so simple.
