Considering Clutch job on 86 240, questions, am I up for this? 200

Hi All,
I have an 86 240 sedan with 185,000, (M46 tranny)

The clutch has been slipping now on and off for a couple of weeks, and seems to happen more when warmed up.
I've got a couple of quotes from local garages for the job, plus rear main seal that are
in the $640-700 range, ouch!!!

I hate to spend this kind of money but looking at the process and whats involved is making me
think twice on this job.
I also need to be driving this car so I don't have the luxury of a lot of time, mostly likely a 3 day weekend.

I'm looking for opinions out there from you brave souls who've tackled this job and have the
hindsight I would apprecitate hearing about, difficulty, pros/ cons, necessary tools, and would you
do it again?

I've tackled blower motors, water pumps, wheel bearings, brake jobs, fuel pumps etc.
Any advice that would build my confidence would be great.
Give it to me straight....

Thanks
