Can any harm come from running briefly without the thermostat? S90-V90 1997

I ordered a new thermostat for my 1997 960 and plan to swap it out since I'm going to be flushing the coolant. Since I'm going to have it out anyway, is there any harm in letting the engine idle with the thermostat removed to aid in flushing out the old coolant?

The thermostat in my BMW was stuck open, but I was still able to drive it until I had a chance to replace it. The engine would never fully warm up, but it didn't do any damage. Unless I'm missing something, I don't see why I couldn't run the Volvo (idling in park) for a few minutes with it removed.
