Matte or Semi-Gloss Tachometer 200 1986

I've been looking on eBay for a large tach to add to my 1986 240 wagon w/manual trans. A number of auction descriptions make a distinction between "early" semi-gloss finish and "later" matte finish on this tach and other instruments. Does anybody know when the finish was changed? Would I even notice the difference when the tach is behind the clear plastic instrument cover?
