What's the Best Reason Why Volvo Didn't Import S90 MANUAL SHIFTS??? S90-V90

I am looking to upgrade my 1988 740 w/ 185k to a nice S90 or 960 years 96-98 with under 80k, but I have never seen one with a manual shift transmission. I have heard from a few sources they don't exist...or at least in the US...

$10 USD to the person who can come up with the best reason why they didn't import any.

What does the conversion process consist of??? I've heard the computer is a problem...
