Synthetic Oils 200

My 245, non-turbo, drives about 800 mi/week.
Mostly highway, but still 12-30 mi/day of smaller roads with traffic, delays, etc.
I'm considering changing to synthetic oil - probably Mobil 1.

Pardon my lack of information on this -
Will I need to change the oil + filter less often if using full synthetic oil?
I've been changing at 3000 miles unless the weather is awful - in which case I'll do it the following weekend.
