M41 Output shaft thingamajig. 120-130

My question has to do with that round thing on the output shaft, it's function being the operation of the oil pump in the J type OD. I was putting the OD onto the tranny and noticed that the little round thing is somewhat loose on the output shaft. It's not threatening to fall off or anything, it just moves a little. I went and checked my other M41 (ya know, the one that came with the basically useless D type OD) and noticed that was loose too. Not as loose, but loose.
Are they supposed to be rock solid? And is it OK if they're not?
I could take it apart (again) and have my machinist look at it.
All thoughts are welcome.
Thanks.
