What to use to clean out breather box? 200

Breather box is off the car. Is it safe to soak the breather box/oil separator in paint thinner for a week to help clean out the gunk inside? I don't want to damage the glue that holds it together. Any other ideas as to what to soak it in for best results. I tried a solution of citrus cleaner and it didn't seem to do much good. Maybe I need to go stronger.
