radio problems 140-160

I have a '72 142E with the original radio in the dashboard. I love this radio and do not want to have to replace it but it keeps acting up. First the light in the radio went out, which makes it really hard to change channels at night. Second, the radio intermittingly stops making any noise, and I do not think that it quits because of lose wiring. Does anyone know how to fix the light issue or have any idea what is going on with my radio?

thank you,
Colin Spikes
