I need to replace the steering column in my wagon, and I'd like some tips. 200 1980

With the help of fellow Brickboarder Kane (and later confirmed by a couple of Volvo mechanics), the time has come for my steering column to be replaced.

My steering wheel has gotten to be really really bad lately. It’s downright scary at times.

Anyway, not being one that likes to screw around with such things, I'm opting for a replacement instead of trying to get the one I have now to work (since it's really bad.)

My questions:

How tough is R&R of a steering column?

Any years I won't be able to use on my '80? It has power steering and AC.

I'm planning on installing a later 240 series AC compressor along with the newer style power steering pump. Would this be a good time to get on that project?

Any tricks that might be able to save me some time?

I'm thinking I'm going to yank one out of the junk yard this weekend (along with a host of other things.)

Thanks as always.
