Some strange electrical problems... 200 1980

Rover had a similar problem - I'd be driving along and the car would sputter and really lose power. Every now and then the radio would kick out and reset itself back to 12:00 - alternator was missing a field wire and not charging the battery properly. Be careful if you get your alternator tested - not many shops are good with volvos. They told us ours was bad when in fact it was only a wire that rotted off. Good luck!
