True -- the car still needs to pass the tailpipe test.

The obnoxious thing about the california smog tests is that
they open the hood and check to see if everything is "correct".
If you fail the visual test, you can't take the tailpipe test.

The absurd thing is that if I take my 75 chebby in and get
it tested, it had better have the original smog pump on it.
But, if I've replaced the carb with an EFI setup, I'll fail
the test before they sniff the tailpipe and discover that it
meets 1992 standards.

Okay -- I didn't realize that the IPD stuff hadn't been
tested.

Heck, I even got ranted at once by topi about this exact issue.

Ah, the good old days.
