960 diagnosis

as stated in an earlier post, i have just aquired a 960. it doesnt currently run due to unspecified reasons, so it is my duty to try and figure it out :)
anyways, i was looking through the 900 FAQ and noticed that there is an onboard self diagnosis computer. i used the test (box) to try and go through and eliminate any possibilities. i put the pin into hole #2 and tested. no error codes came up (111). so as the FAQ stated i tried to test hole #6. for some reason i didnt get any codes at all. i know that faq states that it could be due to a loose connection, but im not sure. i know the tester itself works, so what could it be? what connections should i check, and where are they located?

p.s. i am planning on replacing the rpm sensor thanks to your guys expertise. hopefully that will be the key to getting this thing running.
